Towards Ordinary Moments

How I design is also how I know the world:

through everyday human artiffacts, quirks,

contradictions and moments. Here are some of

those moments that I've archived.

Personal Obsessions During Free Time?

I'd listen to Sufjan Stevens's Should Have Known Better, reading Wikipedia entries and following their hyperlinks, finishing the stack of books I bought on impulse but never got around to reading, and watching Wong Kar-wai's Chungking Express.

Quang Mai is a craft-

focused designer

*he uses smileys as personal

branding for their dual

blend of internet textures

and human emotions*

who tries to zero in on human interfaces,

those laden with details of intent, care, and heart.

Inner Child: A Scribbler at Heart

My earliest memory as a small child in Hanoi, Vietnam is

of everyday artifacts—like a Thiên Long ballpoint pen, which

I used to scribble my drawings with lines and dots. Sincerely,

I think all good designs begin with a small, minute detail.

(P.S. My Viet, at-home name is Cóong, which means an inox

water holder, because of how round my head was when I was

born lol. And my real name means 'the only light'.)

Multidisciplinary Darlings

In my creative practice, I'm inspired by a great variety

of heroes: the monumental writer Anne Carson, the

great Taiwanese New Wave director Tsai Ming-liang, and

the abstract art maestro, Agnes Pelton!

Their arts, through a deep dive into human interiority, has

greatly informed me how I approach my works.

My Very Own Champions

If it weren't for my parents, bố Huy and mẹ Tâm, I would never have the patience, and

sensitivity required of a designer. I'm forever indebted to them for giving me an education

and for always believing in what I have to offer the world. Con yêu bố mẹ nhiều!
